Union Berlin will host SC Braga in a UEFA Europa League fixture at Alte Foersterei on Thursday. The hosts would be aiming to leapfrog the Portuguese outfit into the second spot in Group D. Union Berlin began their Europa League campaign with consecutive defeats against Union SG and Braga before quickly pulling their socks up to register back-to-back 1-0 wins against Malmo. Urs Fischer’s side are just one point adrift of Braga ahead of their meeting on Thursday, meaning a home win will keep their destiny in their own hands ahead of facing group-leaders Union SG in the final matchday next week. Domestically, the Iron Ones have been in stunning form, having collected 23 points from 11 games, to be sitting at the summit of the German top flight standings.Â
Braga, on the other hand, are occupying second spot in the Portuguese top flight standings, having pocketed 22 points from 10 games, just six points adrift of leaders Benfica.
