Ukraine will be hoping to maintain its winning form at the UEFA Nations League when it takes on Armenia in Lodz on Saturday. The troubled European nation is heading into this fixture after narrowly edging past the Republic of Ireland in their last match. This will only be the second match for Ukraine in the competition, however, Armenia have already played twice, winning one and losing the other. After beating Republic of Ireland 1-0, they lost 2-0 to Scotland. This fixture can play a big part in shaping up the League B Group 1 table.

FIFA rankings are massively in favour of Ukraine, who are sitting at the 27th spot, while Armenia occupy the 92nd place. The rankings and recent form are certainly in favour of Saturday’s hosts. Out of the six matches played this year, Ukraine have won four, drawn one and lost only one. However, that one defeat was a big one after they fell to Wales in the World Cup playoffs. Nonetheless, they did well to bounce back from the setback to beat the Republic of Ireland in the last fixture.

On the other hand, Armenia’s form has been relatively poor. In the current year, their form is still fine after they won two and lost two in four matches. However, one of those defeats was a 9-0 hammering against Norway. Besides their results in 2021 have been extremely poor. After March, they have not won a single game all of last year. If they are to get anything out of the match against Ukraine, then Armenia have to be at the top of their game.

Possible Lineups

Ukraine have been playing a lot of matches recently, hence they might shake their Starting XI again. After many changes were made to their squad in the last game, the same trend can be seen yet again on Saturday. Viktor Tsygankov’s goal in the last match will most likely help him retain a starting spot. Up front, there will be a big debate over who among Roman Yaremchuk, Artem Dovbyk, and Andriy Yarmolenko will start for the hosts on Saturday.

The same is the case at left-back where anyone of Eduard Sobol or Vitaliy Mykolenko could start for Ukraine. On the other hand, Armenia have a couple of injury concerns to deal with. Lucas Zelarayan and Hayk Ishkhanyan will reportedly not play a part on Saturday due to injuries. Hence, it will be interesting to see who replaces them in the squad.

Ukraine possible line-up: Lunin, Karavaev, Matvienko, Zabarnyi, Sobol, Shaparenko, Malinovskyi, Sydorchuk, Dovbyk, Mudryk, Yaremchuk

Armenia possible line-up: Yurchenko, Hambardzumyan, Mkoyan, Haroyan, Mkrtchyan, A. Hovhannisyan, Grigoryan, Bayramyan, Spertsyan, Barseghyan, Adamyan
