Faroe Islands and Lithuania will be keen to open their accounts in the UEFA Nations League campaign when they face each other on Saturday. Both sides have played twice in this competition till now and lost both of them. Infact these two teams have not even scored a single goal till now at Nations League. One of them has to step up on Saturday to avoid getting relegated from Group C1. Following the start they made and the kind of teams they are up against, it is impossible for them to earn promotion from this group. However, there is still time for one of these sides to avoid relegation from this group.
In terms of FIFA rankings, Faroe Islands are placed at the 124th spot, while Lithuania occupy the 138th position. There is not much to separate the two sides in that department. The home advantage might benefit Faroe Islands, however, their form over recent months has been largely underwhelming. Prior to the start of the Nations League, they won one and drew the other this year. However, they finished 2021 with four successive defeats. Their run of form throughout last year has been poor. In the ongoing Nations League, they lost the opener to Turkey 4-0 before losing 1-0 against Luxembourg.

On the other hand, Lithuania’s form has been equally dismal in recent months. They are currently on a three-match losing streak. Two of those defeats have come in this competition. After losing 2-0 against Luxembourg, they were trounced 6-0 by Turkey. Besides, their form in 2021 has been extremely poor after winning only one game all year when they beat Bulgaria in a Qatar World Cup qualification match in October. Hence, both sides have to be at the top of their game to register an unlikely win on Saturday.
Faroe Islands will have to make two forced changes after Joensen and Solvi Vatnhamar received red cards in their last encounter. It will be interesting to see who replaces them in the squad. Gunnar Vatnhamar could replace Solvi, but it is not clear who will take the place of Joensen. The visiting team might end up making a lot of changes to the squad after being thrashed 6-0 by Turkey in the last game. Rolandas Baravykas could replace defender Saulius Mikoliunas, while Fedor Cernych might also start from the beginning.
