Trent Alexander-Arnold was understandably happy with the manner in which Liverpool defeated Arsenal 4-0 at Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday. Following a shock loss to West Ham United in their last match, the Reds returned to winning ways in an emphatic fashion this weekend. Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota, Mohamed Salah and Takumi Minamino were on the scoresheet, as the hosts triumphed 4-0. Notably, Alexander-Arnold provided assists for two of the goals. Trent told Sky Sports: “It was exactly what we needed, it was exactly what we expect of ourselves.”

“Massively disappointed before the international break with the loss – a team of our quality shouldn’t be losing games. In this league, [with] the way it’s going, any loss is a very bad loss. But we bounced back today in the best way we could. A clean sheet, four goals – we can’t ask for much more from the lads. A very good performance. They came with two banks of four, tough to break down in the first half, very difficult indeed. But we broke them down in the end, scored our goals and put the game to bed and seeing it out with a clean sheet, which is always good.”

Trent: We completely ran all over them

He was asked whether Liverpool’s intensity and aggression were making the difference as the game went on. Trent replied, “Definitely. First half, we did have that aggression but didn’t really capitalise on it. First 15, 20 minutes of the second half was probably as good as we’ve played, pressing-wise, this season. We completely ran all over them, they continued to play out from the back and we were all over them – they were just seeing red blurs all over the place and that’s exactly what we wanted to do. That second half was outstanding.”

Trent was then asked about two more assists and nine in his last six games for club and country. The English right-back said, “And a goal in there! It’s always good to contribute for the team and I try to pick up positions to hurt the opposition, try to contribute as much as I can. Score, create goals – that’s kind of what my game is based on and I’ve been able to do it again twice today, obviously one with the set-piece and then near the end as well. So, I’m happy with that. I just need to keep up that form hopefully going into this tough run of fixtures.”

“They’re coming thick and fast in the Christmas period, all games are very important and hopefully I’ll be able to keep that form going into this run. I’m feeling good out there, playing with freedom. I’m finding myself in positions that I haven’t previously found myself in and I’m being able to hurt the opposition. So, it’s flowing really nice and I just want to keep up that form. These are the levels I expect of myself, I need to keep it up and carry it on for the rest of the season.”
