Roma has kickstarted their 2023-24 season with two wins and a total of nine goals in just one week. Their first Serie A victory came as they defeated Empoli convincingly, and they followed this up with a triumph in Europe on Thursday. They will now face Torino in the late Sunday kickoff. On the other hand, Torino is also on the rise, having secured consecutive wins recently.

Torino has struggled against Roma in Serie A, losing five of their last six home matches against them, a contrast to their previous 19 meetings. This has led to a sense of inferiority when facing Roma. However, Torino comes into Sunday’s game with two consecutive wins, first defeating Genoa and then securing a 3-0 victory over Salernitana. Alessandro Buongiorno scored initially, and Nemanja Radonjic added two more goals. These wins have seen Torino maintain a perfect defensive record, with no goals conceded in their last two matches, putting them three points ahead of Roma in Serie A. While Duvan Zapata joined Antonio Sanabria at the club to address their goal-scoring issues, Ivan Juric’s organizational skills, coupled with a more potent attack, could lift Torino up the league table.

Roma, last season’s Europa League finalists, returned to the competition with an away clash against Sheriff Tiraspol in Group G, securing a 2-1 victory with Romelu Lukaku extending his remarkable Europa League record by scoring in his 12th consecutive appearance. Roma had a slow start to the season, amassing just one point from their initial three league matches. However, Lukaku’s debut goal for the club, coupled with Paulo Dybala’s brace, propelled them to a resounding 7-0 victory over Empoli last week at the Stadio Olimpico, where they have been strong recently. Conversely, Roma’s Serie A away form has been lackluster, with just one win in their last 10 away games, though it came against this weekend’s opponents, Torino, in April. In their last 13 league encounters with Torino, Roma has won 10, scoring 25 goals compared to Torino’s 12.
