Swansea City will play host to Preston North End in an EFL Championship fixture at Swansea.com Stadium on Friday night. Both sides are heading into the match on the back of defeats last weekend, with the hosts losing 2-1 to Middlesbrough, while PNE were thrashed 5-1 by Watford. The Swans are currently languishing at the 18th spot in the English second tier standings, having collected 25 points from 22 games, five clear of the relegation zone, while the visitors are sitting at the eighth position, with 32 points to their name, four adrift of the playoff.

Swansea have recorded just six league wins this term and their last success came away to Rotherham United on December 9 thanks to Charlie Patino’s opener on the stroke of half-time and Jerry Yates’ winner seventeen minutes from time. However, three says later, the Swans played out a 1-1 draw away to Stoke City before suffering their ninth league defeat of the season against Middlesbrough on Saturday. Swansea attacker Jamal Lowe canceled out Sam Green Wood’s opener, but Samuel Silvera’s 78th-minute effort handed the Swans their fourth defeat from last ten outings. After going on a five-match winless run across November and December, the management decided to part ways with Michael Duff earlier this month, and Alan Sheehan has been the interim boss for the last three games. The Irish tactician would be pleased with his side’s return of four points from three fixtures.

Preston, on the other hand, are also going through bit of a rough patch, having lost four of their last six outings, while recording just one win in the period. Their last success came away to struggling Huddersfield Town (3-1) on December 12 courtesy of one goal each from Alan Browne, Will Keane and Ben Whiteman. It was their ninth second tier victory of the campaign. However, four days later, the Invincibles suffered a disappointing 5-1 defeat to Watford despite taking the lead through Will Keane’s 27th-minute opener. Meanwhile, on a positive note, Preston have won three of their last five encounters against the Swans, including this season’s reverse fixture in August thanks to Andrew Hughes’ equaliser and Duane Holmes’ winner ten minutes from time.
