The Asian giants have qualified for the FIFA World Cup to be held in Qatar later this year and would be aiming to make full use of these round of fixtures as a preparation for the global event. Both sides have faced each other on seven occasions and the record is fairly even. The Tigers of Asia have won three games, lost two and drawn two.

The Taegeuk Warriors didn’t have a great start to this round of fixtures, losing 5-1 to Brazil on June 2 before getting the better of Chile at Daejeon World Cup stadium on Monday. Wolverhampton forward Hwang Hee-Chan opened the scoring before Premier League golden boot winner Son Heung-min doubled the lead in the second half injury-time and sealed the win. South Korea kicked off 2022 brightly by winning five consecutive games and three of them were world cup qualifiers. The strong run of form, helped Paulo Bento’s side secure second spot in the group behind Iran and book a spot in the World Cup.
Paraguay on the other hand, will be hoping to get back to winning ways after losing their last two games. La Albirroja have lost four of their five games in 2022. The poor run of form, saw them finish 8th in the 10-team South American World Cup Qualifiers. Meanwhile Paraguay also struggled to compete in last year’s Copa america. They were knocked out in the last-8 stage by Peru. In their last game at Sapporo Dome, goals from Takuma Asano, Daichi Kamada, Kaoru Mitoma and Ao Tanaka handed a thumping victory to the Samurai Blues, while the South Americans pulled one back through Derlis Gonzalez. Without a major tournament looming, Guillermo Barros Schelotto’s side can simply concentrate on regaining confidence.

South Korea has certainly picked up a star studded lineup for the fixtures in June. Tottenham Hotspur forward Son, Wolves’ Hwang, Freiburg attacker Jeong Woo-yeong, Bordeaux man Hwang Ui-jo are some of the big guns in the squad. Son, who has scored 32 goals in 100 international appearances and will certainely lead the attack, alongside Hwang.
As for Paraguay, Newcastle United winger Miguel Almiron is the key player in the team. Schelotto could bring some changes in the back line after conceding four times in the last outing. Meanwhile Sanchez and Cubas are expected to form the midfield duo.
