South Korea will play Ghana in their second Group H fixtures of the 2022 FIFA World Cup at the Education City Stadium on Monday. The Taegeuk Warriors are heading into the match on the back of a goalless draw against Uruguay in their opening game on Thursday, while Ghana suffered a 3-2 defeat to Portugal on the same day. South Korea were eliminated in the group stages, four years ago, in Russia, despite getting the better of Germany in their final group-match. Meanwhile, Ghana’s previous World Cup appearance was in 2014, when they managed to pocket just one point from three games to finish at the bottom of their group.

South Korea were involved in an intense encounter against Uruguay in Al Rayyan, but both sides lacked quality up front and only one shot of target was recorded in the entire match. Meanwhile, the Asian outfit can consider themselves lucky to earn a point as Uruguay were denied by the woodwork on two occasions. But still, Paul Bento’s side showed great discipline and solidity at the back and La Celeste were often forced to go aerial or test the goalkeeper from long range. It was South Korea’s third consecutive clean sheet.

Ghana, on the other hand, gave a scare to Portugal but then ended up on the losing side. Cristaino Ronaldo converted a spot-kick to break the deadlock in the 65th-minute, before Joao Felix and Rafael Leao struck either side of Andre Ayew’s response. And then, Osman Bukari reduced the deficit further to make the final few minutes interesting, but the European’s held on to the slender lead and secured the victory. Therefore, the Black Stars cannot afford another defeat if they are to keep their chances of going through to the next round alive.
