Cameroon and Serbia will face each other in a Group G fixture of the 2022 FIFA World Cup at Al Janoub Stadium on Monday afternoon. Both sides will be looking to get their first points on board after being beaten in their opening game on Thursday. The Indomitable Lions are heading into the match on the back of a narrow 1-0 defeat to Switzerland, while Serbia were convincingly beaten 2-0 by favourites Brazil. Both teams will be desperate to get three points in order to keep their chances of going through to the next round alive. The Eagles were eliminated in the group stage, four years ago in Russia, after finishing third in their group behind Brazil and Switzerland. Meanwhile, Cameroon’s previous World Cup appearance was in 2014, when they lost all of their three group fixtures.

The West African nations were a bit unlucky not to get anything from their game against Switzerland. After a goalless first half, Breel Embolo broke the deadlock three minutes into the second half. The 25-year-old slotted home from Xherdan Shaqiri’s low cross to help his team secure all three points. Despite the loss, head coach Rigobert Song would have plenty of positives to take from the game, as his side created a good number of chances to test the Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer. Cameroon’s last World Cup win came in 2002, courtesy of Samuel Eto’s winner..

Serbia, on the other hand, were outplayed by Brazil at the Lusail Stadium. Although they managed to hold world ‘s number 1 ranked national side for more than an hour, a 62nd-minute goal from Richarlison broke the deadlock for the Selecao. And then, eleven minutes later, the Tottenham Hotspur-man doubled the lead with an overhead kick and sealed Brazil’s victory. The Eagles, who had secured a top spot in Group A of the UEFA qualifiers, ahead of Portugal, to earn a spot in the finals, failed to register even a single shot on target in the opening match. Aleksandar Mitrovic, who was returning from an ankle injury, was often isolated up front and lacked pace to test Brazil’s defence on counter’s.

Probabale Lineups

Cameroon boss Song is unlikely to make too many changes to the playing eleven that started against Switzerland. Bayern Munich-man Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is expected to spearhead the attack with Karl Toko-Ekambi and Bryan Mbeumo in support. Meanwhile midfielder Olivier Ntcham has been ruled out of Cameroon’s remaining group games due to injury, therefore Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa and Martin Hongla partner in the engine room. As for Serbia, left-wing-back Dusan Kostic is not fully fit and is doubtful for Monday’s game. Meanwhile both the strikers Dusan Vlahovic and Mitrovic are also returning from injuries.

Cameroon probable starting lineup: Onana, Fai, N’Koulou, Castelletto, Tolo, Anguissa, India, Hongla, Mbeumo, Choupo-Moting, Toko, Ekambi

Serbia probable starting lineup: V. Milinkovic-Savic, Milenkovic, Veljkovic, Pavlovic, Zivkovic, Gudelj, S. Milinkovic-Savic, Mladenovic, Tadic, Vlahovic, Mitrovic
