Slovenia’s last appearance at a major event was way back at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa and they have only reached the European Championships once since independence from Yugoslavia, and that was at Euro 2000. Now, Slovenia are just a solitary point away from sealing their place in the finals of the Euro 2024 in Germany. Kek’s side have recorded six wins from nine group games so far, and their last success came away to Northern Ireland last month thanks to Adam Gnezda Cerin’s lone goal inside the opening five minutes. Meanwhile, Slovenia suffered only their second defeat of the qualifying campaign at Denmark last time out despite the fact that Erik Janze got on the scoresheet.
Kazakhstan, on the other hand pocketed all three points against San Marino last time out courtesy of Islam Chesnokov’s brace and Ambat Aimbetov’s 92nd-minute effort. The Hawks have now won six of their nine Group H games. Magomed Adiyev’s side were beaten 2-1 by Slovenia on matchday one and they will be out to avenge that defeat , and doing so the visitors will be hoping to create history, reaching the European Championship for the first time ever. Kazakhstan’s form from the Nations League last year suggests this is no fluke either, as they won their group containing Slovakia, Azerbaijan and Belarus.
Slovenia probable starting lineup: Oblak, Karnicnik, Blazic, Bijol, Janza, Verbic, Gnezda Cerin, Elsnik, Mlakar, Vipotnik, Sesko
Kazakhstan probable starting lineup: Shatskiy, Kairov, Bystrov, Marochkin, Alip, Vorogovskiy, Beysebekov, Zuev, Chesnokov, Aymbetov, Samorodov
