Sierra Leone didn’t get the best of conditions in their opening group match against Ethiopia on Thursday as the match was delayed on several occasions due to dense fog that covered the field of play. Nevertheless, Leone Stars would be fairly satisfied with a point from their opening match of the campaign and are now unbeaten in their last three outings in all competitions. However, going up against Mohamed Salah-led Egypt will be a massive step up in class for coach Amdu Karim’s side, who have won just two of their last ten outings across all competitions.
Egypt, on the other hand, are the favourites to top the group and they have begun their qualifying campaign in the best possible manner, putting six goals past Djibouti without reply on Wednesday. Liverpool striker Salah scored four times while the likes of Mostafa Mohamed and Trezeguet scored one goal each for the the Pharaohs at Cairo International Stadium in the mid-week. Egypt have now won ten of their last 12 outings in all competitions, and their lone defeat in the period came against Tunisia in a friendly in September. The North African nation are bidding to reach the World Cup finals for a fourth term, having previously qualified for the 2018 edition in Russia.
