Slovakia will host Belarus in a UEFA Nations League fixture at the TSC Arena on Sunday evening. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a 2-1 defeat to Azerbaijan on Thursday, while Belarus lost to Kazakhstan with a similar scoreline on the same day. There is little importance attached to the fixture, with the visitors already relegated and Slovakia unable to claim top spot. Belarus are sitting at the bottom of League 3 Group C, with just two points from five games, while the Sokoli are one place above them, having collected four points more.

Slovakia have lost three of their last five Nations League games. Sokoli’s two wins came against Belarus and Azerbaijan with a 1-0 scoreline. In their last outing against Azerbaijan, Erik Jirka’s 93rd-minute goal from the penalty spot canceled out Renat Dadashov’s opener. But, just when it looked like the points would be shared, Hojjat Haghverdi netted a 95th-minute winner to hand a second successive defeat to Slovakia.

Belarus, on the other hand, had their relegation to the bottom tier confirmed after a 2-1 defeat away to Kazakhstan on Thursday. Mikhai Gabyshev put Kazakhstan in front on the half-hour mark, before Pavel Savitski equalised for the White Wings, on the stroke of half-time. However, Bakhtiyar Zaynutdinov’s 79th-minute strike proved to be the winner for Kazakhstan and sealed the Hawks’ promotion to the top tier. As a result, Belarus will compete against the likes of San Marino and Liechtenstein during the next Nations League campaign.
