Sheffield Wednesday, who earned promotion to the second tier via 2022-23 League One playoffs, are yet to register their first Championship victory this season, recording three draws and ten defeats from 13 league games so far. On their return to action following the international break, Owls suffered back-to-back defeats against Watford and Plymouth Argyle, conceding 4 goals and scoring none in the process. Furthermore, Wednesday have found the back of the net only once in their last nine encounters, and new boss Danny Rohl will be aware that his side has no chance of moving closer to the safety line until the goal-scoring issue is rectified.
Rotherham, on the other hand, also have their own problems, but the Millers have taken a respectable four points from their last two outings. Matt Taylor’s side went into the international break on the back of a hard-fought 1-1 draw away to fourth-placed Southampton. And then, the Millers returned to action with a victory over last season’s playoff finalists Coventry having netted twice in the second half thanks to Lee Peltier’s 51st-minute opener and Olivier Rathbone’s effort three minutes into the injury time. It was only their second league win of the season and the result helped the Millers to close the gap on safety to just five points. Meanwhile, eight points have been collected from their last eight outings which is an indication that they are improving after a slow start.
Sheffield Wednesday probable starting lineup: Dawson, James, Iorfa, Diaby, Famewo, Musaba, Vaulks, Bannan, Buckley, Windass, Smith
Rotherham United probable starting lineup: Johansson, Lembikisa, Morrison, Peltier, Bramall, Rathbone, Tiehi, Cafu, Onyedinma, Hugill, Revan
