Arsenal were at their ruthless best against Sheffield United in the Premier League, as they raced to a comfortable 6-0 victory. It was a dominant performance by the Gunners from back to front in one of the most one-sided matches this season. They were 5-0 up at half-time, something not many saw it coming. Arsenal scored a sixth in the second half and controlled the second period to see out their comfortable win.

Why was Bukayo Saka substituted at half-time?

Even though Arsenal were expected to get the three points from this fixture, not many predicted them to win the game in such a dominant fashion. The only blip from an otherwise perfect evening was seeing Bukayo Saka getting substituted at half-time. Providing an update on it, Mikel Arteta, quoted on Arsenal.com, said in his post-match press conference, “He was feeling a bit sick and as well we have Fabio who we have to give minutes. It was great opportunity [for us] and then we had a little issue with Gabi Martinelli as well, he had a slight cut on his foot and we have to wait and see how he is.”

The game also saw the return of Arsenal’s holding midfielder Thomas Partey from a lengthy injury break. “Today obviously Thomas is available now to play a certain number of minutes. He needs to build that, because it was his first minutes after four months which is a long time. And then, like everybody, you need to have the right to earn the minutes,” the manager said. Providing an update on Takehiro Tomiyasu, he said, “He’s very close, he’s already doing something on the grass and hopefully we’re going to have him very close with us.”

Mikel Arteta on Sheffield United win

Arteta then shifted his attention to the incredible Premier League win over Sheffield United by praising the start they had in the match. “A great night – it’s a really difficult place to come but the way we started the game obviously made the difference. We were really aggressive, really positive and we showed real quality, especially in the final third to take the game into a position where it was in a big favour for us and then we maintained it. We maintained the rhythm, the hunger and I love that about the team,” he explained.

The latest win means Arsenal have scored the most number of goals in the Premier League this season with 68 and have the best goal difference of 45. When asked whether goal difference will play a part in the title race, Arteta said, “We don’t know. Obviously, the fact we scored so many goals and not conceding is a great sign, but it’s about winning every game now, and that’s the demands those two clubs have put over the last six or seven years, and that’s the task ahead of us.”
