Chelsea produced one of the greatest comebacks in Premier League history when they scored two late stoppage-time goals to secure a remarkable 4-3 win over rivals Manchester United. The contest between the Reds and the Blues have not had the same impact in recent times, as it used to several years ago. However, on Thursday night, both teams went back in time to produce one of the all-time classics in the division.

It all started with Chelsea making a brisk start to the proceedings and got rewarded by taking a 2-0 lead in no time. With Stamford Bridge bouncing in joy, Manchester United hit back immediately to make it all square at half-time. Having already witnessed four goals in the first half, the supporters were bracing themselves for another goal fest in the second period and they got their money’s worth. United took the lead from a brilliant counter attack to go 3-2 up in the end-to-end Premier League fixture.

Chelsea pushed hard for the equaliser but were not able to get it, as the game entered deep into stoppage time. With hardly any time left in the contest, Palmer scored the leveller from the spot. Just when it looked like the game would finish 3-3, the Blues found an even later winner from a deflected Palmer strike to send the crowd wild. At full-time, Mauricio Pochettino joined his players on the pitch to celebrate the epic triumph.

Mauricio Pochettino on Cole Palmer

The manager expressed plenty of joy with the result, as he heaped praise on his players. He also had special words of praise reserved for the hat-trick hero Palmer, who joined Chelsea from Manchester City last summer. “One of his best skills is his mentality and his capacity to deal with the pressure. He’s young, it is his first season playing very consistently and I think it is amazing the way he deals with the pressure. That shows he can be a very good player. Looking at his performance today it is impossible to say that he’s not a top player, but there’s still a lot of room to improve,” Pochettino, quoted on the club’s website, said after the match.

Pochettino then shifted his attention to the dramatic late win, as he stated that his team deserved to get the three points on the night. “Of course I enjoyed it. It was amazing because I was thinking we deserved it, we were the better team today. It was fair when we scored in the last minute. We started the game really well and at 2-0 for us the game was under control. Then we made a mistake and we suffered a big emotional impact. It wasn’t easy to deal with this,” he explained.

The manager added: “In the second half again we controlled the game and we conceded in transition. Of course the way we conceded the three goals was disappointing because I think we should be better in these types of situations. But if you analyse the game I think it was a fair result, three points for us. And to finish in the way that we finished, for the connection between our players and fans, it was a very good thing that happened for us tonight and it should be a turning point for the team and the fans to have trust in each other.”
