AC Milan beat Torino 1-0 in the Serie A fixture at San Siro on Tuesday. Olivier Giroud’s early goal was enough for the hosts to secure three points and move to the top of the points table. Torino striker Andrea Belotti was making his first start in two months since recovering from an injury. Earlier in the day, Salernitana beat Venezia 2-1 in Venice and Spezia and Genoa played out a 1-1 draw at Alberto Picco.

Milan started the match level on points with league leaders Napoli, who will play Bologna on Friday. Within the opening 14 minutes, Milan took the lead with their first real opportunity of the match. Sandro Tonali’s in-swinging corner from the right flank was knocked on by Rande Krunic for Giroud to tap in at the far post from close range.

Rafael Leao’s powerful drive from outside the box went straight to the hands of Torino goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic. On the stroke of half-time, Krunic’s header from Tonali’s free-kick went just wide.

After the break, Tommaso Pobega’s header from a corner went over the bar. Karol Linetty released Balotti down the right side of the penalty area but the Italian striker miss-kicked and the ball was easily collected by Milan goalkeeper Ciprian Tatarusanu.

Dennis Praet’s through ball released Antonio Sabaria on the left side of the penalty area and the Paraguayan striker’s attempt squirmed away from Tatarusanu but Fikayo Tomari cleared it almost off the line.

Praet’s effort from just inside the box deflected off Tomori and bounced off the top of the crossbar. Milinkovic-Savic came forward for a stoppage time corner kick and nearly created a goal. The Serbia goalkeeper’s flick from the corner kick fell to Sanabria, but the forward couldn’t readjust to tap in from close range.

The win helped AC Milan to 28 points from 10 games, three points clear of second placed Napoli.

Andrea Schiavone’s stoppage time winner

Salernitana moved off the bottom of the table as they came from behind to snatch a last-gasp winner against Venezia. It was Stfano Colantuono’s first win as Salernitana boss. The visitors conceded early in the match as Mattia Aramu fired home in the 14th minute.

Meanwhile Federico Bonazzoli equalized in the 61st minute. Things got worse for the home side as Ethan Ampadu was sent off in the 68th minute. Andrea Schiavone drilled home the winner in the fifth minute of stoppage time to secure their second Serie A win of the season.

The win helped Salernitana to 7 points from 10 games while Venezia are in the 16th spot with eight points.
