Although Serbia qualified for the 2022 World Cup in a stunning fashion, securing top spot in Group A ahead of Portugal, they failed to progress to the knockout round in Qatar, finishing at the bottom of Group G, behind Brazil, Switzerland and Cameroon. Nevertheless, the Eagles returned to competitive action in March, registering back-to-back wins against Lithuania and Montenegro in their first two games of the Euro qualifiers. Goals and Dusan Tadic and Dusan Vlahovic helped Dragan Stojkovic’s men to secure all three points against Lithuania at Red Star Stadium, while Vlahovic’s late double was required to steal the win away to Montenegro. The Eagles will subsequently host Hungary in September in what could prove to be the pivotal encounter in Group G, although two teams from each group will automatically qualify for the continental tournament in Germany.
Jordan, on the other hand, comfortably booked their place in the AFC Asian Cup in January by overcoming the likes of Indonesia, Kuwait and Nepal in the third qualifying round. The Chivalrous Ones are placed in Group E and will kick off their campaign against Malaysia on January 15, before taking on the mighty South Korean five days later, and will face Bahrain in their final group-match on January 25. Adnan Hamad’s men are set to play some quality opponents as part of their preparations for the continental tournament. After the game against Serbia, Jordan will square off against Jamaica on June 19, before facing Norway and Azerbaijan in September. Meanwhile, the Chivalrous Ones are heading into Friday’s game on the back of eight wins and two defeats from their last ten games across all competitions.
