Manchester City supporters could not have wished for a better season than the one they enjoyed this time around. Pep Guardiola’s side maintained their favourites tag in almost every competition they played to end the campaign on a memorable note. The blue half of Manchester first won the Premier League title. It was not an easy battle by any stretch of imagination. For long periods, they were chasing Arsenal but in the end, City took advantage of Gunners’ slip up to seal the top spot.

They followed it up by getting their hands on the FA Cup trophy. It wasn’t a pretty triumph either. Manchester City were made to work for their lives by Manchester United in the final, as Guardiola’s boys held on to a narrow 2-1 win to lift the trophy. They followed it up by getting their hands on the most sought-after prize of the lot – Champions League trophy. After overcoming difficult opponents like Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in earlier rounds, Man City had to dig deep to get the better of Inter Milan in the final.

Guardiola’s side are known for their attractive style of possession football. However, this season, they have time and again won matches by the narrowest of margins even in games that did not go according to script for them. This is one of the key reasons behind Man City’s success this season, states former City defender Nedum Onuoha while speaking during the club’s special Matchday Live show.

‘They can find a way if things aren’t going well’

“We’ve seen some games like against Real Madrid where they were nearly perfect, had the ball for so long and obliterate a team. But we’re also seeing them win 1-0 here there and everywhere. They can find a way if things aren’t going well. I was speaking to Rodrigo after the game, and he said his first half performance was bad. He said: ‘I need to get better in the second half’, and he did that. When the pressure was at its highest and he needed to do something, how’s the winner for you? It’s not too bad is it,” he was quoted as saying by the club’s website.

Meanwhile, former striker Paul Dickov, who was also present, spoke highly of Champions League final hero Rodrigo. “It wasn’t his best game, especially in the first half. For me, consistently over the past eighteen months to a season he’s been our best player, without a shadow of a doubt. He’s the one player if you take out, I think we miss more than anything else. Particularly scoring in the Champions League final and getting man of the match, you’re going to take it.”
