Houston Dynamo will be bidding to get back to winning ways in the Major League Soccer when they travel to Lumen Field to take on Seattle Sounders on Saturday night. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a goalless draw against Orlando City last weekend, while Houston were thrashed 3-0 by Austin FC. As of now, the Sounders are occupying third spot in the Western Conference standings, having collected 29 points from 20 games, just four points adrift of leaders St. Louis City, and two points clear of fourth-placed Houston.
The Sounders began their season impressively, winning six successive MLS games, but then somehow lost that momentum, recording just one win from their last 11 matches. Brian Schmetzer’s men have won eight league-games this term and their last success came against New York Red Bulls on May 27 thanks to Jordan Morris’ lone goal mid-way through the first-half. Since than, the Sounders have recorded two defeats and three draws from their last five outings. Although they still possess the best defensive record in the Western Conference, having conceded only 18 goals so far, Schmetzer is under no illusion that he needs to find a greater balance if they are to continue their push for the playoffs.
Dynamo, on the other hand, saw their four-game winning run come to an end against Austin at Q2 Stadium last time out. The Verde raced to a 2-0 lead inside the opening half-hour mark courtesy of goals from Ethan Finlay and Gyasi Zardes, before Julio Cascante’s 50th-minute effort completed the drubbing and handed Houston their eighth league-defeat of the campaign. Prior to that, Ben Olsen’s men secured their eighth top flight victory of the season against San Jose Earthquakes (4-1) thanks to two early goals from Amine Bassi and Corey Baird, and Thorleifur Ulfarsson’s late double. It was their fourth successive victory, scoring 13 goals and conceding just two in the period. Although Houston possess the best home-record in the Western Conference, they also have the worst away-record, winning just one of their ten league-games on the road and collecting only five points from their travels so far.
