Scunthorpe United play host to Sheffield United in a pre-season friendly at Glanford Park on Saturday. The hosts are preparing for the National League campaign after being relegated from the Football League Two last term. Meanwhile Sheffield United are building towards a Championship opener against Watford on August 1. Paul Heckingbottom’s side finished fifth in the last edition of Championship before losing at Nottingham Forest 3-2 on aggregate in the Championship semi-final. The Blades will also play Mansfield Town, Burton Albion and Barnsley in their remaining pre-season games before taking on Watford in their Championship opener. Sheffield United have already made three new signings , thus far this summer, bringing in Tommy Doyle on loan from Manchester City and Ciaran Clark on loan from Newcastle United. Central defender Anel Ahmedhodzic has joined the Blades on a permanent deal from Malmo. Scunthorpe, on the other hand, have played three friendlies so far this summer, losing 3-2 to Middlesbrough Under-23’s before playing out a 2-2 draw with Huddersfield Town Under-23’s.Â

Scunthorpe’s new signings Elliott Whitehouse, Colin Daniel and Andrew Boyce are likely to feature in the playing eleven on Saturday, in order to help them gel with the team and gain match fitness. Head coach Keith Hill is expected to rotate the squad heavily and he could also give some game-time to the trial-players. As for Sheffield United, Rhian Brewster, who scored a brace in the previous outing is likely to lead the attack alongside Daniel Jebbison.Â
