Scotland are placed 39th in the FIFA rankings, while the Republic of Ireland are currently occupying the 47th spot.
Republic of Ireland will be keen to bounce back against Scotland after losing their opening two fixtures in the ongoing UEFA Nations League campaign. Saturday’s hosts started with a loss to Armenia before falling to Ukraine in their last game. On the other hand, Scotland started the tournament on a positive note, beating Armenia 2-0. They will look to maintain that form in Group B1 on Saturday but will be well aware of the fact that they are traveling to a difficult ground.
Scotland are placed 39th in the FIFA rankings, while the Republic of Ireland are currently occupying the 47th spot. There is not much to separate them in terms of rankings. Prior to the Nations League, Scotland were on a three-game winless streak. They drew two and lost the World Cup qualifier to Ukraine. Keeping the disappointment aside, they started the Nations League with a 2-0 victory over Armenia. It was a comfortable win after they went 2-0 up in the first half and never looked back.

On the other hand, the Republic of Ireland have not had the best of starts. They first fell to Armenia 1-0 before losing to Ukraine by the same margin. Prior to the Nations League, they were in decent form. In fact their previous defeat had come in September of 2021. However, their eight-match unbeaten run came to a disappointing end with two successive defeats in the ongoing competition. They have to be at the top of their game against Scotland to open their account on Saturday.
Republic of Ireland have a couple of injury concerns to deal with ahead of their Staurday’s encounter. At this point, it is not clear whether Seamus Coleman could recover from a groin injury to play the match at the weekend. John Egan came off against Ukraine owing to an injury, hence it is unclear whether he will be fit for Saturday’s clash. On the other hand, a number of players could return to Scotland’s starting line-up. Manchester United’s Scott McTominay could be one of those players, however, it is not clear whether he plays as a midfielder or a defender. Besides, Nathan Patterson’s participation in the match is also a big doubt.
Republic of Ireland possible line-up: Kelleher, Coleman, Collins, Duffy, Christie, Cullen, Stevens, Hendrick, Robinson, Knight, Obafemi
Scotland possible lineup: Gordon, Souttar, Hendry, McKenna, Ralston, McGinn, McTominay, Hickey, Armstrong, Adams, Christie
