Real Sociedad secured a thrilling victory against Almeria at Estadio Mediterraneo on November 11. The White and Blues broke the deadlock through Oyarzabal’s 62nd-minute effort before Sergio Arribas leveled the score 14 minutes from time. Just when it looked like the match was heading into a tie, Carlos Fernandez converted a spot kick in the 91st-minute and Martin Zubimendi’s effort four minutes later sealed Imanol Alguacil’s side’s sixth top flight victory of the campaign. Meanwhile, the Royal are already through to the knockout stage of the Champions League, currently sitting on top of Group D on 10 points.
Sevilla, on the other hand, have struggled get going in the La Liga, having recorded two wins, six draws and four defeats from 12 outings. Their last league-win came against Almeria way back in September, while Rojiblancos Sevillistas have won only one of their last ten games in all competitions, and that lone success came against lower division side Quintanar de la Orden in the Copa del Rey at the start of this month. Diego Alonso’s side came from behind to earn a point against Betis last time out thanks to Ivan Rakitc’s 79th-minute equaliser. Because of the poor run of form, Sevilla are already 16 points off the top four, while they are also in a tough spot when it comes to progressing in the Champions League.
