Real Madrid will be bidding to seal their place in the round of 16 of UEFA Champions League when they play host to SC Braga in a Group C fixture on Wednesday. The hosts are currently occupying top spot in the four-team table, having collected a maximum on nine points from three matches, three clear of second-placed Napoli, and six ahead of their next opponents, who are at the third position. Meanwhile, the reverse fixture in Portugal almost two weeks ago ended 2-1 in favour of the Spanish giants thanks to Rodrygo’s 16th-minute opener and Jude Bellingham’s strike on the hour-mark. Although Braguistas pulled one back through Alvaro Djalo two minutes after Beloingham’s fine effort, Carlo Ancelotti’s men saw out the final half-hour to secure all three points.

After the success at Estadio Municipal de Braga, Los Blancos travelled to Catalonia for the El Clasico and secured a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over arch rivals Barcelona thanks to Bellingham’s second-half brace. But Ancelotti’s men were quickly brought back down to Earth by Rayo Vallecano (0-0) in their last outing on Sunday night despite firing 22 shots and having 63% ball possession. Nevertheless, Los Blancos have extended their unbeaten run to eight games across all competitions, and are currently sitting at the second spot in the Spanish top flight standings, two points adrift of surprise leaders Girona. Meanwhile, Real Madrid have avoided defeat in each of their last eight Champions League home games, winning seven of them, and will be confident about taking all three points against the Liga Portugal outfit on Wednesday.

Braga, on the other hand, began their Champions League group stage campaign with a 2-1 defeat to Italian champions Napoli, before getting the better of Union Berlin 3-2 in Germany, thanks to Andre Castro’s injury-time winner. However, Braguistas suffered their second Group C defeat away to Los Blancos almost two weeks ago despite the fact that Djalo found the back of the net. Nevertheless, Arthur Jorge’s men have not tasted defeat in their last five league outings, while winning four of those matches. Braga are heading into Wednesday’s game on the back of a dominant 6-1 Liga Portugal victory over Portimonense at the weekend, thanks to Simon Banza’s hat-trick and one goal each from Ricardo Horta, Al-Mustrati and Djalo. The Archbishops are currently sitting at the fourth spot in the Portuguese top flight standings, having collected 20 points from ten matches.
