Arch rivals Rangers and Celtic will go head-to-head in a Scottish Premiership fixture at Ibrox Stadium on Monday afternoon. The visitors are currently occupying top spot in the Scottish top flight standings, having collected a stunning 54 points from 19 games, while Rangers are sitting just behind them at the second spot, separated by nine points. Both clubs are heading into the match on the back of dominant victories in their previous outings on Wednesday. Rangers got the better of Motherwell 3-0, while the Celts registered an even better victory, thrashing Hibernian 4-0, away from home. Meanwhile, the previous meeting between these two sides in September was a one-sided affair, which ended 4-0 in favour of Celtic.

Rangers’ new boss Michael Beale has made an impressive start to the journey in Glasgow, having won the last four games. Last time out, the Gers netted three times against Motherwell without reply, courtesy of strikes from Alfredo Morelos, Connor Goldson and Malik Tilman. It was their 14th league-win of the campaign, taking them 17 points clear of third-placed Hearts. Having crashed out of the Champions League, now Rangers’ clear priority is to chase down their rivals for the top spot. Meanwhile, their defence has been pretty solid in the last two outings, having kept consecutive clean sheets.
Celtic, on the other hand, have the best defence in the league, having conceded just 15 goals thus far, three less than the Gers. The Hoops recorded a 12th consecutive win when they took all three points against Hibernian on Wednesday. Aaron Mooy netted a brace, while Daizen Maeda and Kyogo Furuhashi scored one goal each for the Celts at Easter Road. Meanwhile, Ange Postecoglou has built a strong attacking unit that has already netted 61 times in the Scottish Premiership, 17 more than their Monday’s opponents, who have the second best record in front of goal.
Rangers forward Morelos, who opened the scoring in the last match, should lead the line, with Tillman and Kent in support. Attacking midfielder Kemar Roofe is a major doubt for Monday’s game, while Ianis Hagi is sidelined with a long term injury. As for Celtic, midfielder Saed Haksabanovic is set to miss the crucial game as the 23-year-old is sidelined with a foot injury, while Anthony Ralston will also be unavailable. Meanwhile, recent signings Alastair Johnston and Yuki Kobayashi could feature on Monday.
Rangers probable starting lineup: McLaughlin, Tavernier, Goldson, Sands, Barisic, Jack, Lundstram, Kamara, Tillman, Morelos, Kent
Celtic probable starting lineup: Hart, Hatate, Carter-Vickers, Starfelt, Taylor, O’Riley, McGregor, Mooy, Jota, Furuhashi, Maeda
