PSV Eindhoven will host Bodo/Glimt in their opening group match of the 2022-23 Europa League campaign at Philips stadion on Thursday evening. Both sides had lost their respective Champions League qualifying playoff tie to settle for a spot in the group stages of Europe’s second tier club competition.The hosts had lost to Rangers 3-2 on aggregate, while Bodo/Glimt suffered a 4-2 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb over two legs. PSV have made an impressive start to their 2022-23 Eredivisie season, having won four of their opening five games to be sitting at the fourth spot in the standings with 12 points, just two behind leaders Ajax. Last Saturday’s loss to Twente was PSV’s first league defeat of the season. Vaclav Cenry’s first half brace gave a two-goal lead to Twente before PSV pulled one back through Guus Til. Prior to that, Ruud van Nistelroy’s side got the better of FC Volendam, Excelsior, Go Ahead Eagles and FC Emmen in their opening four league fixtures.

Bodo/Glimt, on the other hand, are occupying second spot in the Eliteserien table with 41 points from 21 games, 10 points behind leaders Molde. The Yellow Horde were beaten in their last match against Molde at the Aspmyra stadion on Saturday. Two goals from Markus Kaasa either side of Emil Breivik’s strike left Kjetil Knutsens men 3-1 down mid-way through the second half. Five minutes from time, Ila Brynhildsen’s goal put the icing on the cake and sealed Molde’s win.

PSV forward Yorbe Vertessen is sidelined with a muscle injury, while Marco van Ginkel and Noni Madueke are also nursing injuries and won’t be available for Thursday’s game. Simons is expected to lead the line with El-ghazi and Gakpo in support. As for Bodo/Glimt midfielder Amahl Pellegrino is doubtful for the match against the Dutch outfit. Therefore Albert Gronbaek is in line to join Salvesen and Mugisha in the three-man attack.
