Preston North End will be looking to secure back-to-back wins in the EFL Championship when they play host to Watford at Deepdale on Saturday. The hosts got the better of Huddersfield Town 3-1 on Tuesday, while the Hornets are heading into the match on the back of a 2-1 defeat against Ipswich Town. Preston are currently occupying eighth spot in the English second tier standings, having collected 32 points from 21 games, just a solitary point adrift of the playoff spot, while the visitors are sitting at the 12th position, with 28 points to their name.

Preston secured a comprehensive victory over Huddersfield at John Smith’s Stadium last time out thanks to one goal each from Alan Browne, Will Keane and Ben Whiteman. It was the Invincibles’ ninth league win of the season and the result ended their four game winless run. Meanwhile, PNE still has to improve at Deepdale, having won only one of their last six fixtures in front of their own supporters and that lone success came against Coventry City on November 4.

Watford, on the other hand, suffered their seventh league defeat of the campaign against second-placed Ipswich on Tuesday night despite taking the lead through Yaser Asprilla’s 12th-minute opener. The Tractor Boys leveled the score courtesy of George Hirst’s effort mid-way through the first-half before Sam Morsy struck the winner ten minutes from time. Meanwhile, the Hornets have recorded seven second tier wins this term and their last success came against Hull City earlier this month thanks to Edo Kayembe’s early opener and Wesley Hoedt’s winner 16 minutes from time. It was Watford’s one of two away-wins from their nine league games away from Vicarage Road.
