Paul Pogba has pulled out of the France squad due to an injury sustained in training on Monday. The 28-year-old Manchester United midfielder had joined up with his international teammates recently to help the Les Bleus prepare for important World Cup qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Finland. Unfortunately, the 28-year-old suffered a right thigh injury while taking part in a training session on Monday. As a result of the injury, the French Football Federation has confirmed that Pogba will miss both of the country’s upcoming games during this November international break.

The France team tweeted: “Paul Pogba has suffered an injury to the quadriceps of the right thigh and is forced to miss the next two matches. To replace him, Didier Deschamps called on Jordan Veretout.” Defending champions, France, would need just three points to secure the World Cup qualification. They will be seeking a victory against Kazakhstan to complete their qualification into the tournament.

Meanwhile, Pogba’s domestic side Manchester United have confirmed that the midfielder will return to the club for treatment. United informed: “Paul Pogba has been released from the French national team following a thigh muscle injury sustained in training. He will return to Manchester for treatment and further evaluation.”

Pogba has endured a mixed form so form with his club. After a bright start early in the season, the Frenchman has been criticised for his inability to trackback or help out his defence when dealing with pressure. There were a couple of matches where he was also benched. To make things worse, he also got himself sent off in the Premier League.

The midfielder is still to serve the final part of his domestic three-game suspension. It was as a result of a second-half red card against Liverpool in October. Hence, he will anyway be unavailable for selection for the next Premier League match against Watford on 20th November. Should he return to full fitness, then Pogba would be eligible to play in the month’s other fixtures against Villarreal (23rd November) and Chelsea (28th November).

Marcus Rashford out of England internationals

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford will stay with the club in order to concentrate on regaining his full fitness. The latest development comes ahead of Gareth Southgate’s side preparing for the games, against Albania, at Wembley, on Friday, and an away tie at San Marino next Monday.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are next in action on 20th November (Saturday), with a trip to Watford in the Premier League. Last month, Rashford made a successful return following rehabilitation from shoulder surgery in the summer. He scored the first of three goals since his comeback when coming off the bench at Leicester City. He also found the back of the net in the victories against Atalanta and Tottenham.

However, he was unable to train after the Champions League draw at Atalanta, due to illness. He was cleared to be on the bench for the Manchester derby and came on in the second half of the 2-0 loss. He had replaced Mason Greenwood after 66 minutes. However, he remains short of full fitness as he has still to complete a full 90 minutes since the enforced lay-off.
