The footballing world was sent into a frenzy a few days ago when Barcelona announced that their biggest star, Lionel Messi, would be leaving the club ahead of the new season. Financial restrictions by La Liga crippled the Catalan club’s wage structure and left them in a very tough position. As a result, Messi will bid his final farewell to the club he has been part of for 21 years. Unsurprisingly, there have been speculations regarding the future of the Argentina footballer. The most likely club to attain Messi’s services is French club Paris Saint Germain. The Argentine’s close friend Neymar is part of the club and fellow countryman Mauricio Pochetino is the present manager.

As per reports, Messi is expected to arrive in Paris on Monday to secure the deal to the Parc des Princes. He bid a highly emotional farewell to Camp Nou recently. The 34-year-old could very well be the final piece of the puzzle to bring the champions league title to the French capital. PSG have had a very good summer transfer window. They have already managed to sign Achraf Hakimi and Real Madrid legend Sergio Ramos. They also have Euro winners Marco Verratti and Gianluigi Donnarumma in their side. If the Messi deal goes through, it would be undoubtedly the club’s best squad in history on paper.

IMMINENT ARRIVAL?

Several PSG fans had gathered outside the Le Bourget airport in the French capital to welcome the Argentine legend on Sunday. However, it was in vain. Messi had not turned up on the day. The deal is not yet done but it is quite close to completion if reports are to be believed. In his farewell speech at the Camp Nou, Messi had said that a move to PSG was indeed on the cards and possible.

When it comes to the financial side of things, there are very few clubs that could afford Messi’s wage demands. PSG is certainly one of those clubs. Their brilliant transfer strategy this year has left them with some money to spare in the bank. Messi will of course go for free to Paris if the deal does happen. Since he is a free agent, Barcelona will not get any money. However, the Argentine’s wages are massive. The reported wage agreed by the club is 35 million euros a year.

EMOTIONAL GOODBYE

“I gave everything for Barcelona from the first day that I arrived right to the last. Never imagined having to say goodbye,” Messi said in his farewell address to Barcelona.

“I gave everything for Barcelona from the first day that I arrived right to the last. Never imagined having to say goodbye,” he added.

Messi is regarded as the most talented football player of all time, and even the greatest of all time by several. He holds several records both at the club and international level. He started his career at Argentine club Newell’s Old Boys, before moving to Barcelona. There, he won 35 trophies and scored 672 goals, the most by any player in the club’s history.
