Osasuna will host Sevilla in the opening match of the 2022-23 La Liga season at the El Sadar on Friday night. The hosts are heading into the game on the back of a 2-1 win over Mirandes in their final friendly of the summer last Friday, while two days later, Sevilla secured a narrow 1-0 win over Cadiz. Osasuna finished 10th in the La Liga Santander last term, accumulating 47 points from 38 games. Meanwhile, the visitors were fourth in Spain’s top flight last season with 70 points, 16 adrift of the winners Real Madrid.Â

Osasuna had a mixed pre-season, recording four wins, three defeats and one draw in seven friendlies. In their recent outing against Mirandes, Darko Brasanac and Robert Ibanez netted for Jagoba Arrasate’s side to secure the win. Los Rojillos have signed Moi Gomez, Manu Sanchez, Aitor Fernandez and Ruben Pena this summer to bolster their squad. Meanwhile there have been notable departures in the shape of Cote, Pier Sanjurjo, Robert Ibanez and Marc Cardona.Â
Sevilla, on the other hand, have completed the signing of Spanish midfielder Isco from Real Madrid on a free transfer. Julen Lopetegui’s side participated in six friendlies this summer, registering three wins, two defeats and one draw. In their last match against Cadiz, Thomas Delaney’s lone strike was enough to separate the two sides. Las Nervionenses have qualified for this year’s UEFA Champions League, and would be hoping to challenge high up the division this season. Meanwhile, the departure of highly rated defenders Jules Kounde and Diego Carlos to Barcelona and Aston Villa respectively, is a big blow to Sevilla.Â
