Aston Villa were well beaten by the newly promoted Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium, while Everton suffered a narrow defeat to Chelsea at Goodison Park
Saturday’s Premier League clash between Aston Villa and Everton is all about Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard. During their playing days, Gerrard and Lampard have been involved in intense rivalry battles as their respective former clubs Liverpool and Chelsea have lit the league on fire on several occasions. On Saturday though they will be guiding their respective teams to the Villa Park stadium with the intention of registering their first victory of the new campaign. Both sides lost their opening encounters last weekend, something they will look to rectify on Saturday.

Aston Villa were well beaten by the newly promoted Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium, while Everton suffered a narrow defeat to Chelsea at Goodison Park. Unlike Gerrard, Lampard can take a lot of positives from the defeat, as they matched Chelsea toe-to-toe last weekend. In the end, a Jorginho penalty proved to be the only difference between the two sides. Both teams invested handsomely in the transfer marker. Even though it gets the fans excited, additional investment will only increase the pressure on the managers’ shoulders.

Aston Villa had a productive transfer window, signing Boubacar Kamara and Diego Carlos before making Philippe Coutinho’s move a permanent one. All three of them are expected to retain their places in the starting lineup. There were reports of issues between Gerrard and Tyrone Mings, hence it is not clear whether he will start on Saturday. Meanwhile, centre-forward Salomon Rondon’s return from suspension will be a welcome boost for Everton. However, they will miss the injured duo of Yerry Mina and Ben Godfrey. Hence, the new signing Conor Coady could go straight into the Starting XI, while it is unclear whether another new recruit Amadou Onana will start the fixture.
Aston Villa possible line-up: Martinez, Cash, Konsa, Carlos, Digne, McGinn, Kamara, Ramsey, Coutinho, Ings, Watkins
Everton possible lineup: Pickford, Holgate, Coady, Tarkowski, Patterson, Doucoure, Onana, Mykolenko, Gray, Gordon, Rondon
