Achraf Hakimi, a defender for Paris Saint-Germain and Morocco, has been accused of rape, according to ESPN. Investigators looking into the charges of rape, questioned Hakimi on Thursday, according to the prosecutor’s office in Nanterre, a suburb of Paris. After that, he was charged by an investigative judge and put under court control. Hakimi is not allowed to speak to the 24-year-old woman who accuses him of raping her on Saturday at his suburban Paris residence. According to prosecutors, Hakimi is free to move in and out of the French territory.

During the time that his wife and kids were away on vacation, Hakimi is allegedly said to have paid for his accuser to see him at home. Despite the woman not filing charges, the prosecution office nonetheless chose to launch an inquiry due to the seriousness of her evidence. Rape-related allegations are being brought against Hakimi. That indicates in accordance with French law there is cause to believe a crime has been committed, but it gives magistrates more time to look into the situation before determining whether to put the case on trial.

Prior to Friday’s events, it was anticipated that Hakimi, who has been sidelined with a leg injury, would be able to play for his club against Nantes on Saturday in a league encounter. Besides, the announcement comes five days before PSG’s second-leg Champions League encounter against Bayern Munich, which is a vital game for PSG. “The aim with our medical staff is for Hakimi to be available for the match against Bayern,” PSG coach Christophe Galtier stated at a press conference on Friday. Regarding the probe, he opted not to comment. Hakimi was chosen for the 2022 FIFPRO World XI, and he attended the FIFA Best awards ceremony in Paris on Monday.

Hakimi’s Lawyer denies charges

The statement from Hakimi’s attorney, Fanny Colin, read: “According to the elements currently at the police’s disposal that Hakimi, in this case, is the victim of an effort at racketeering.” The accused victim, in the words of Hakimi’s attorney, “refused to lodge charges, refused to submit herself to any medical or psychological testing and refused to confront Achraf Hakimi in person when the accusations simply rely on her words.” Colin stated, “Achraf Hakimi strongly denied the allegations against him throughout his police interrogation. Being charged provides M. Hakimi with several rights to defend himself, including access to the case file.”

Hakimi went through Real Madrid’s development programme before joining Bundesliga team Borussia Dortmund in 2018. He later appeared in 73 games for the German team. He first relocated to Inter Milan in 2020 before making the switch to PSG in 2021, where he has since been an essential member of the squad. Additionally, he played a significant role in Morocco’s journey to this year’s World Cup semi-finals.
