Liverpool forward Diogo Jota is delighted to have ended his goal drought at Elland Road against Leeds United. In the Premier League contest on Monday night, the Portugal international scored twice as the Reds went on to register a comfortable 6-1 win. It was a much needed result for Liverpool, who have been underperforming for the majority of the campaign. The latest result could provide an outside chance of Liverpool securing an unlikely top four finish.

After the comfortable Premier League victory over Leeds United, Jota expressed his happiness to be back among goals. He scored not once but twice to help the visitors get a comfortable victory on the night. “Yeah, it was a great feeling. Obviously as a forward I want to score, not only assist, as I’ve been doing this season. And hopefully I can carry on this form from today,” Diogo Jota told Liverpoolfc.com.

Now I’m trying to get that momentum: Diogo Jota

Asked about how it affects confidence when not scoring, Jota replied, “Yeah, I think it was a bit of last season as well, I didn’t score in the last few games. This season is really, really hard, struggling with injuries. Now I’m trying to get that momentum and games like today will certainly help for that. It’s part of football, you try to always believe in yourself but obviously when you do get the goal everything becomes easier in a player’s mind. So, we just need to take advantage of the moment because it’s really hard to achieve that.”

Liverpool are still far off in the race for a top four finish. They are placed eight in the Premier League table and still have a long way to go. With only eight games left in the season, the Reds cannot afford any more slip ups in the push for Champions League football. “We need to believe. While it’s possible, we need to believe. But we can only do that by winning games. Certainly, today was a step in the right direction,” he explained.

Everyone is pushing for something: Diogo Jota

“I think this season we had great results, great wins and we didn’t really follow that. So hopefully this time we can go on a run and win pretty much all the games.” Next up for Liverpool is a league fixture against Nottingham Forest at Anfield on Saturday. “We know every game in the Premier League is hard but especially now in the final games; everyone is pushing for something and that’s even more competition. But we like that, we like to be in a good football game. So let’s hope we get the same result [a win],” he elaborated.
