Coventry City will be looking to make it three consecutive wins in the EFL Championship when they host Sunderland at Coventry Building Society Arena on Saturday afternoon. The two sides suffered contrasting results against Rotherham United in their most recent outings, with the hosts securing a 2-0 win last Saturday, while the Black Cats were beaten 2-1 on Tuesday. The victory helped the Sky Blues move 11th spot in the English second tier standings, having collected 45 points from 32 games, five adrift of the playoff spot. The visitors, meanwhile, have played a game extra, and are sitting three places above Coventry, separated by four points.

Coventry are unbeaten in their last three games, while winning two of those. Last time out, the Sky Blues netted twice against Rotherham without reply, thanks to Jamie Allen’s strike on the stroke of half-time and Viktor Gyokeres’s injury-time effort. It was Gyokeres’ 14th league-goal of the season, keeping him second in the top scorer’s chart behind Middlesbrough’s Chuba Akpom. The Sky Blues now have 12 top flight wins to their name. Meanwhile, Coventry have kept two clean sheets in their last two wins.
Sunderland on the other hand, suffered only their second league-defeat since the turn of the year, on Tuesday against Rotherham. The Black Cats lost the match despite the fact that Joe Gelhardt found the back of the net on the hour-mark. Prior to that, Tony Mowbray’s side went on a five-game unbeaten streak that included a 3-0 win over Queens Park Rangers on February 14. Luke O’Nien’s opener and Jack Clarke’s late double helped Sunderland thrash QPR and secure their 13th league-win of the campaign. Meanwhile, two wins from seven in all competitions is not a great record, but the Black Cats have managed to score in nine of their last 12 on the road.
