After just seven months in charge, Graham Potter has been sacked by Chelsea. The club terminated the ex-Brighton manager’s employment on Sunday as a result of a string of underwhelming displays. The Englishman was named as Thomas Tuchel’s replacement at Stamford Bridge back in September, but he lasted only seven months before being fired for failing to turn around the team’s fortunes. The ultimate straw was Chelsea’s 2-0 loss to Aston Villa on Saturday.

The club released a statement saying that Potter has departed the club and that they thank him for his services. Ex-Brighton defender Bruno Saltor has been appointed as the Interim Head Coach. The owners, Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali said in a statement, “On behalf of everyone at the club, we want to thank Graham sincerely for his contribution to Chelsea. We have the highest degree of respect for Graham as a coach and as a person. He has always conducted himself with professionalism and integrity and we are all disappointed in this outcome. Along with our incredible fans, we will all be getting behind Bruno and the team as we focus on the rest of the season.”

With the recent appointment of Thomas Tuchel at Bayern Munich, Julian Nagelsmann appears to be a top candidate for the job. Here’s a list of managers who can replace Potter at Chelsea:

Julian Nagelsmann

One of the most well-known managers in world football, Julian Nagelsmann was recently fired by Bayern Munich in an unexpected decision and is now a free agent looking for the perfect opportunity. Although Tottenham has been mentioned, Nagelsmann would be better off moving to Chelsea because he appears ready to join one of the Premier League’s powerhouses. Given his relatively young age, Nagelsmann would be a risk, but after succeeding at Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig, and Hoffenheim, he appears to have the credentials to manage such a demanding position at Stamford Bridge.

Mauricio Pochettino

The former Tottenham manager has been without a job since 2022 after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain was terminated. When at their best, his side plays beautiful football, and Chelsea supporters are yearning for that after a season of terrible games at Stamford Bridge. Tottenham has a more recent tendency to hire ex-Chelsea managers, but the situation might change soon. He has extensive Premier League expertise from his successful stints with Southampton and Tottenham. Even though he is being considered for the job, it is unclear whether he would be tempted by the position at Chelsea.

Zinedine Zidane

Before Didier Deschamps decided to remain with the French national team after a successful World Cup, Zidane appeared to be the favorite for the position. With that door closed, he might look to join another top club which could be the one in west London. The former Real Madrid manager is very well-known after his legendary run with the club winning three UEFA Champions League trophies. After a season without a trophy, his second stint with the club came to a close in 2021, and Zidane hasn’t played any other roles since. This hasn’t prevented him from being mentioned in connection with several openings, including those at PSG, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur.

Luis Enrique

Luis Enrique is another name in the market. The Spanish coach is a two-time La Liga and Champions League champion at Barcelona and is one of many elite coaches out of work. Enrique was named manager of Spain in 2018 as a result of his success at Camp Nou. After a disappointing World Cup performance in Qatar, he was sacked from the job. His lack of experience in the Premier League could be a disadvantage as Chelsea needs a manager who can provide instant results.

Brendan Rodgers

Brendan Rodgers was sacked by Leicester City on the same day as Potter. After losing to Crystal Palace at the weekend the club mutually agreed to part ways with Rodgers to move out of the relegation zone. The 50-year-old guided Leicester to their first FA Cup victory in 2021 and two straight fifth-place results in the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons. Rodgers has also led Liverpool to the verge of winning the league while also enjoying a fruitful tenure at Celtic, where he won two Scottish Premiership championships. He has also been Chelsea’s youth and reserve squad manager when Jose Mourinho was Chelsea’s manager.
