Newcastle United will host Leciester City in a Premier League fixture at St. James’ Park on Monday night. The hosts are currently occupying third spot in the English top flight standings, having collected 69 points from 36 games, level on points with fourth-placed Manchester United and three clear of fifth-placed Liverpool, who have played a game more. The Magpies, who have never qualified for the Champions League since 2002-03 season need just one more point to seal their top four finish thanks to to the Reds’ draw against Aston Villa on Saturday. The Foxes, meanwhile, are languishing at the 19th position in the table, with 30 points to their name, three adrift of safe zone.

Newcastle stormed by Brighton & Hove Albion in a 4-1 thrashing on Thursday night thanks to Deniz Undav’s own goal and one goal each from Dan Burn, Callum Wilson and Bruno Guimaraes. It was their 19th league-win of the season, and Eddie Howe’s men have now recorded five wins from their last six matches at St. James’s Park, scoring 17 goals and conceding only seven in the process. Meanwhile, the Magpies will be stepping out in front of a raucous St. James’s Park for the final time this season on Monday and will hoping two secure their 12 home league-win of the campaign.

Leicester, on the other hand, suffered a huge blow to their survival hopes last Monday courtesy of being thrashed 3-0 by Liverpool at King Power Stadium. After weathering an early storm from the Foxes, the Reds hit Dean Smith’s men through Curtis Jones’s brace in the first-half, before Trent Alexander Arnold’s 71st-minute strike sealed Leicester’s 22nd league-defeat of the season. With two games remaining, the Foxes are trailing 17th-placed Everton, who have played a game more, by three points. Leicester are winless in their last four games, while taking just two points in the period and their last triumph came against Wolves almost a month ago. Meanwhile, the Foxes have not tasted victory in their last seven away-games in the Premier League, losing five of those outings.
