On Wednesday, at WQL stadium, a brace from Heber and one goal each from Talles Magno and Gabriel Perreira helped NYCFC earn a point. The reigning MLS Cup winners are winless in their last four games across all competitions. Nick Cushing, who replaced Ronny Deila as NYCFC’s boss in early June, is still waiting for his first victory with the Blues. The Pigeons had started poorly conceding the opener in their last four games in all competitions, although they fought their way back numerous times, but were not able to pocket three points.
Atlanta United, on the other hand, took the lead against the NY Red Bulls through Jose Martinez in the 75th minute. Lewis Morgan equalised for the hosts seven minutes from time before Serge Ngoma netted an 89th-minute winner to hand seventh defeat of the season to Atlanta United. Atlanta’s form off late hasn’t been great, losing three of their last five games while registering two back-to-back wins against Pachuca and Inter Miami.
New York City FC midfielder Santiago Rodriguez is eligible to return after serving a yellow card suspension. Thiago Martins is nursing a lower-body injury and Keaton Parks went under the knife recently and won’t be available for selection. Castellanos would lead the attack with last game’s goal-scorers Heber and Magno in support. As for Atlanta United, Martinez, who netted his fourth goal of the campaign against NYRB, would partner Cisneros in the forward line. Hyndman and Araujo would occupy the flanks with Moreno and Rossetto pulling the strings from the midfield.
New York City FC possible line-up:Johnson; Amundsen, Callens, Tinnerholm, Gray, Acevedo, Morales; Magno, Moralez, Heber; Castellanos
Atlanta United possible line-up: Rios Novo; De John, Franco, Campbell, Ambrose; Hyndman, Rossetto, Moreno; Araujo; Martinez, Cisneros
