New York City FC will host Atlanta United in a Major League Soccer (MLS) fixture at the Yankee stadium on Sunday. The hosts are heading into the tie on the back of an entertaining 4-4 draw at Cincinnati on Wednesday, while, a day later, Atlanta United were defeated 2-1 by NY Red Bulls. NYCFC are currently placed 4th in the Estern Conference table with 28 points from 16 games, just one point behind leaders Montreal, with a game in hand. The visitors are languishing at the 11th spot with 19 points from 16 games.

On Wednesday, at WQL stadium, a brace from Heber and one goal each from Talles Magno and Gabriel Perreira helped NYCFC earn a point. The reigning MLS Cup winners are winless in their last four games across all competitions. Nick Cushing, who replaced Ronny Deila as NYCFC’s boss in early June, is still waiting for his first victory with the Blues. The Pigeons had  started poorly conceding the opener in their last four games in all competitions, although they fought their way back numerous times, but were not able to pocket three points.

Atlanta United, on the other hand, took the lead against the NY Red Bulls through Jose Martinez in the 75th minute. Lewis Morgan equalised for the hosts seven minutes from time before Serge Ngoma netted an 89th-minute winner to hand seventh defeat of the season to Atlanta United. Atlanta’s form off late hasn’t been great, losing three of their last five games while registering two back-to-back wins against Pachuca and Inter Miami.
