Middlesbrough’s impressive four-game winning run in the second tier came to an end last weekend, when they were beaten by Sunderland at the Stadium of Lights. Ross Stewart and Amad Diallo netted in the second half to hand a ninth league-defeat of the season to Boro. Prior to that, Michael Carrick’s side edged past Millwall through Marcus Forss’ lone goal, nine minutes into the second half. It was Middlesbrough’s 12th Championship-win of the campaign. Carrick’s side have undoubtedly taken a huge step forward, moving to the playoff spot, despite battling relegation at the initial phase of the season. .
Watford, on the other hand, shared the spoils against Rotherham last Saturday, courtesy of Joao Ferreira’s 53rd-minute strike which canceled out Shane Ferguson’s first half opener. Since the return to Championship in December after the World Cup break, Slaven Bilic’s side have added 11 points to their tally in seven league matches. Dropping points against Rotherham saw the gap between themselves and Sheffield United stretched to 13. Their previous victory came against Blackpool on January 14, through second half strikes from Todi Ademeyo and Ismaila Sarr. It was their 12th league-win of the season.
