As per the reports coming in, Manchester United want to have a final decision on Paul Pogba’s future at Old Trafford made by Christmas. The Frenchman’s contract with the Red Devils is coming to an end in 12 months time and would be free to talk with other clubs from January. Therefore the United management are desperate to avoid any kind of uncertainties during the second half of the season when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will be entering the business end of the season. Meanwhile United are also reportedly looking at Franck Kessie as a replacement for Pogba.

According to The Sun, the United management have been in regular conversation with agent Mino Raiola in an attempt to decide on a new contract worth almost GBP 400,000- a-week. The club’s interest in offering a new deal to the Frenchman wasn’t very clear because of the midfielder’s hot and cold performances for the Red Devils over the years.

However, from the start of this season, the 28-year-old has been performing exceptionally well for United, registering seven assists in as many Premier League games so far. And, he also got into the Premier League record books, equalling the record for most number of assists in a single match, a feat achieved by only seven other players. He seems to have developed a very good understanding with the forwards. Therefore the English club seems to be growing in confidence regarding Pogba’s future at Old Trafford despite reported interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.

Interest from PSG and Real Madrid

During the summer transfer window it was reported that PSG were willing to offer Pogba a GBP 510,000-a-week wage if he joins them for free next summer. Meanwhile Real Madrid are also interested in Pogba but their primary goal remains another French World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe. Therefore it is doubtful whether the Spanish giants would make a big-money offer for Pogba.

Meanwhile it is also learnt that United have already set their eyes on AC Milan midfielder Kessie as a replacement if the Frenchman leaves. Kessie has been doing a very good job for the Serie A side, making more than 140 league appearances since joining them from Atalanta in 2017.

Kessie’s playing style is quite similar to that of Pogba, he is big, strong and has decent ball playing abilities. Although Pogba is exceptionally talented when it comes to delivering defence splitting passes, Kessie is more of a hardworking and consistent player.

Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw against Everton in their previous league match and Pogba started on the bench. Next up, Solskjaer’s side will travel to Leicester City on October 16, after the international break. After Saturday’s draw, United are placed third in the points table with 14 points from seven games, two points adrift of leaders Liverpool who will take on Manchester City on Sunday.
