Manchester United have added Kylian Mbappe to their list of potential targets as they plot a big-name forward next summer, as per the sources of ESPN. Although signing a central defensive midfielder and right-back are their priorities before the end of the transfer deadline on August 31, the Red Devils could also be open to adding another striker to their squad this summer. United are looking at building for their future and therefore they plan to buy a center-forward in the 2022 summer window.

Edinson Cavani is expected to leave Old Trafford at the end of this season. The 34-year-old striker scored 16 goals for United in 17 appearances in all competitions last season after joining from French club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in October 2020. The Uruguayan will possibly return to Boca Juniors after his stint with the English club.

Head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to bring in a quality striker to fill the gap and therefore United have listed Erling Haaland, Lautaro Martinez, and Mbappe as potential targets.

Haaland has committed himself to remain with Borussia Dortmund for one more year whereas Mbappe is in his final year of contract with PSG and has not signed a contract extension so far, therefore United are keeping a close eye on the situation in the French capital.

MBAPPE WANTS REAL: REPORTS

Meanwhile, Real Madrid are also working on their chances of signing the French World Cup winner and are strongly linked with the prolific striker in the recent windows.

According to reports coming in, Mbappe sees Santiago Bernabeu as his preferred destination, though he has told his senior teammates that he expects to stay in Paris for one more year. However, that would see the expiry of the Frenchman’s contract next summer and the 22-year-old will be available on a free transfer. That is something PSG would not want to happen because he was brought in to PSG for the second most expensive deal ever, which was worth a reported 180 million euros.

Mbappe has made a name for himself as one of the world’s best players since breaking onto the scene in the 2016-17 season with Monaco. He made a loan move to PSG the next summer before making the permanent transfer. During his time in Paris, the forward has been simply sensational, scoring 133 goals in 177 appearances in five seasons.

The speedy striker also played a pivotal role in France winning the FIFA World Cup in 2018 after a gap of 20 years, scoring four goals in the tournament including one in the final against Croatia.
