Man City are going through a bit of a rough patch having lost two of their last three games across all competitions. Pep Guardiola’s side suffered a surprise 2-0 loss to Southampton in the quarter-finals of EFL Cup on January 11, before being beaten 2-1 by City rivals Manchester United in the league, last Saturday. However, the Cityzens managed to get their acts together in the mid-week as they secured all three points against Spurs despite going down by two goals in the first half. After the break, the reigning champions came out all guns blazing and scored four times, courtesy of one goal each from Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland, and Riyad Mahrez’ brace.
Wolves, on the other hand, lost to Liverpool in the FA Cup third round replay on Wednesday through Harvey Elliott’s lone goal inside the opening 13 minutes. Prior to that, Julen Lopetegui’s side edged past West Ham in the league, with an identical scoreline. Daniel Podence’s 48th-minute strike separated the two sides at Molineux Stadium last Saturday. It was only their fourth win in the top flight this season. Wolves are still the lowest scorers in the Premier League this season with just 12 goals to their name.
Manchester City full back Rico Lewis is doubtful for Sunday’s game because of a minor ankle injury. Therefore Kyle Walker could come into the playing eleven. Haaland will continue to lead the line, with Alvarez and Marez in support. Rodri, Bernardo Silva and Kevin de Bruyne might form the midfield-trio. As for Wolves, the injury list consists of Sasa Kalajdzic, Pedro Neto, Boubacar Traore and Chiquinho. Striker Diego Costa has recovered from a knock, and could feature against the Cityzens.
Manchester City Probable line-up: Ederson, Walker, Stones, Dias, Ake, De Gruyne, Rodri, Bernardo, Mahrez, Haaland, Alvarez
