Liverpool will be hoping to make it back-to-back wins in the Premier League when they host a struggling Nottingham Forest at Anfield on Saturday. The hosts got back to winning ways in emphatic fashion last time out by thrashing Leeds United 6-1, while Forest are heading into the match on the back of a 2-0 defeat against Manchester United. As of now, the Reds are occupying eighth spot in the English top flight standings, having collected 47 points from 30 games, nine adrift of the top four. The visitors, meanwhile, have played a game more, and are languishing at the 18th position, with 27 points to their name, level on points with 17th-placed Everton, who are out of the drop zone courtesy of a superior goal-difference.

Liverpool recorded their 13th league-win of the season against Leeds at Elland Road last Monday thanks Cody Gakpo’s 35th-minute opener, a brace each from Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota, and Darwin Nunez’s 90th-minute strike. The result ended their five game winless streak in all competitions. Prior to that win, the Reds fought back from 2-0 down to earn a point against league-leaders Arsenal. Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp’s side have been solid at home this term, having lost only one of their 14 league-matches at Anfiled, while collecting 31 points in the process. With five of their remaining eight fixtures to be played at Anfield, and facing only one other Big Six side in a faltering Tottenham Hotspur before the curtain closes, the Reds are very much alive in the race to secure a top four finish.
Nottingham Forest, on the other hand, were comprehensively put to the sword by Manchester United at the City Ground last time out. Efforts by Antony and Diogo Calot either side of the half-time whistle handed Forest their 16th league-defeat of the season. If not for the former Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas’s saves, the scoreline could have been even worse for Steve Cooper’s side. The Tricky Trees are now without a win in 10 of their last ten top flight matches, while losing each of their last three. Meanwhile five of their remaining seven fixtures this season will be against team’s in the top half, and that includes a home-match against leaders Arsenal.
Liverpool probable starting lineup: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson, Jones, Fabinho, Henderson, Salah, Gakpo, Jota
Nottingham Forest probable starting lineup: Navas, Felipe, McKenna, Niakhate, Williams, Danilo, Mangala, Freuler, Lodi, Johnson, Gibbs-White
