Leeds United would be desperate to get back to winning ways when they play host to relegation-battling Stoke City in an EFL Championship fixture at Elland Road on Tuesday evening. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a 1-1 draw away to Huddersfield Town at the weekend, while the Potters secured a comprehensive 2-0 win over Middlesbrough last time out. Despite the victory, the visitors are languishing at the 22nd spot in the English second tier standings, having collected 38 points from 35 games, level on points with Huddersfield, who are just outside the drop zone, in the 21st position. The Whites, meanwhile, are sitting at the third spot in the table, with 75 points to their name from 35 league matches, just two away from the top two, the automatic promotion spots.

Leeds have recorded 22 Championship wins this season and their last success came versus leaders Leicester City on February 24. The Whites netted three times in the final ten minutes to secure all three points against the Foxes thanks to Connor Roberts’ 80th-minute equaliser, Woet Faes’s own goal seven minutes from time, and Patrick Bamdford’s effort four minutes into the stoppage time. However, four days later, Daniel Ferke’s men saw their six-game winning run come to an end, losing 3-2 to Chelsea in the FA Cup round of 16 tie. On Saturday, the Whites traveled to John Smith’s Stadium aiming to extend their winning run in the league to nine games, but were forced to share the spoils despite playing the second-half with a man advantage. Leeds striker Patrick Bamford’s 67th-minute effort canceled out Michal Helik’s opener on the stroke of half-time.
Stoke City, on the other hand, have won only three games in 2024, all of them coming against teams in the bottom half of the Championship standings. Mid-way through last month, the Potters edged past QPR to end their four-game losing run. However, Stoke couldn’t build on that success, losing back-t-back games against Coventry City and Cardiff City. On Saturday, Steven Schumacher’s men revived their survival quest with a two-goal victory over Middlesbrough. One effort each from Bae Jun-ho and Lewis Baker gave Stoke their tenth second tier victory of the campaign. Meanwhile, the reverse fixture against Leeds at Bet365 stadium back in October ended 1-0 in favour of the Potters.
