Lazio took an early lead against Lecce last weekend thanks to Cirro Immpobile’s 26th-minute opener. However, the hosts came out all guns blazing in the second half and secured all the points courtesy of Pontus Almqvist’s 85th-minute equaliser and Federico de Fancesco’s winner three minutes from time. Prior to their curtain-raiser, the Super Eagles played five friendlies this summer, recording three wins and two defeats in the period. Meanwhile, Maurizio Sarri’s side tried to bring Hugo Lloris from Tottenham Hotspur but the French goalkeeper didn’t make the switch to Rome, while the likes of Daichi Kamada and Gustav Isakse have arrived at Stadio Olimpico.
Genoa, on the other hand, finished second in the 2022-23 Serie B standings to return to the Italian top division at the first time of asking. However, the Red and Blues were swatted aside by Viola in their opening top flight match of the season at Stadio Luigi Ferraris, with Davide Biraschi producing the Griffin’s consolation goal two minutes before the hour-mark. Alberto Gilardino’s side had already conceded four goals inside the first hour of their comeback campaign. Meanwhile, Vecchio Balordo have signed the likes of Mateo Retegui and Junior Messias among many others this summer, aiming to boast the club’s survival chances.
