Manchester City supporters were treated to the news of their star midfielder Bernardo Silva signing a contract extension with the club. The Portuguese international has penned a deal that will keep him at Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2026. After joining the Manchester Blues in 2017, Silva has been an extremely important part of City’s successful recent years. He was instrumental in them winning a historic treble last time out.

Director of Football Txiki Begiristain was understandably happy with Bernardo Silva signing the new contract with Manchester City. “Bernardo has been exceptional during his time at the Etihad, so we’re delighted that he has signed a contract extension with the Club. His quality and technical ability is fantastic – and alongside his hard work and professionalism, he has become one of the best players in the world. Bernardo was so important in our Treble-winning season and we are sure he can help deliver even more trophies in the next few years,” he was quoted as saying by the club’s website.

What Bernardo Silva had to say?

Meanwhile, Bernardo Silva spoke about how the club provides him with the opportunity to keep winning. “I’ve had six incredible years at Manchester City and I’m delighted to extend my time here. Winning the Treble last season was extremely special and it’s exciting to be part of a squad where there is such a hunger and passion. Success makes you want even more, and this Club gives me that opportunity to keep on winning. I love the manager, my team-mates and the fans and hope we can share even more great memories in the coming years,” he explained.

He is one of the senior players in the team after spending six campaigns at the club already. Silva cannot wait to achieve more going into his seventh season with the club. “[It’s my] seventh season playing for Man City now. And it’s been a dream in terms of what we achieved, in terms of the prospects of what we can still do. Six years where we won five Premier Leagues, one Champions League and all the cups,” he was quoted as saying by the club’s website.

He added: “I couldn’t have imagined it better, to be honest. I am very happy. [It’s] another season where we will try to do as best as possible. And we started well. Let’s keep going that way. I’m going for my seventh season at City. To be here until now meant trophies, meant winning a lot. And I like to win. It’s good to win. It’s not easy. So to be in a winning team, it’s a very good feeling. And I wanted to keep it that way.”
