Manchester United players will be eager to bounce back from last weekend’s disappointment when they host Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Saturday. The Red Devils have experienced a below-par start to the new season after getting only three points form a possible six. While it may not be bad to get one win from two games, the manner in which United have played so far might worry some supporters. Man United registered an unconvincing 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the opener where the less-fancied visitors looked more threatening in front of goal.

They did improve their performance in the following encounter away to Tottenham Hotspur by creating multiple chances in the first half. However, their poor finishing and inability to maintain that level for the whole match proved costly as Spurs won 2-0 in the end. Hence, the supporters will be keen to see a response from Manchester United in their weekend Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest.

‘We can and we want to be a lot better’

It is a feeling echoed by Christian Eriksen, who believes the team can be a “lot better.” “I think we are not in the place we wanted to be result-wise. Obviously, it’s just the start of the season. The only positive is we started better than last season, a few more points than last season [when we lost our opening two fixtures to Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford]. But I think we all know that we can and we want to be a lot better,” he told United Review.

“I mean it’s difficult, you can always look back [to what happened at the start of last term] but, in the end, you’re going to do what you can and that is in the present. And we will have to work a lot to change and get a better feeling than what we had a few days ago [at Spurs].”

Christian Eriksen on Anthony Elanga

The Premier League contest on Saturday could also see Anthony Elanga returning to Old Trafford but as an opposition player. Eriksen only had good words to describe the former United Academy graduate. “I’m happy for him. Of course, he was not playing and not being involved and I know how tough that is. So I’m really happy for him. I hope he can really have a big success there. He’s earned it. I mean he’s always training, training hard, working his everything off to try to be better. Hopefully, he can continue that at Forest,” he explained.

Eriksen could be involved from the start against Forest following Mason Mount’s untimely injury. It could be more or less a similar situation to the last league meeting between the two sides. “I wasn’t supposed to start the game. I think it was Marcel [Sabitzer] who got injured in the warm-up and then I came on and [had to get] changed. But, no, it was a good game. It was a good result. We had pretty good control of the game at the time and it made it easy for ourselves,” he stated.
