Two side looking to record their first La Liga win of the 2023-24 season will be up against each other of Friday as Las Palmas play host to Real Sociedad at Gran Canaria. The hosts are heading into the match on the back of a narrow 1-0 defeat away to Valencia last weekend, while La Real played out a 1-1 draw against Celta Vigo. The visitors have picked up two points from their opening two league games of the season and sit 13th in the table, while Garcia Pimienta’s side have collected just a solitary point, which has left them in 14th position. Meanwhile, the previous meeting between these two sides was way back in 2018, where the White and Blues prevailed 1-0 courtesy of Mikel Oyarzaval’s first-half effort.

La Union Deportivo strated life back in the Spanish top flight with a 1-1 draw against Mallorca on August 12 before suffering a 1-0 defeat at Valencia last time out. Pepelu’s 74th-minute penalty-kick separated the two sides at Mestalla. Los Amarillos spent three straight seasons in La Liga between 2015 and 2018 before dropping down to the Segunda Division, but they managed to secure a direct promotion to the top division following a second-placed finish last term. Garcia Pimienta’s side have been active in the transfer market this summer, bringing in the likes of Sory Kaba, Mika Marmol, Sandro Ramirez and Munir el Hadadi, while the likes of Julian Araujo and Marvin Park have arrived on loan deals.

Real Sociedad, on the other hand, finished fourth in the 2022-23 La Liga Santander, meaning they will compete in the group stage of the upcoming UEFA champions League. The Basque outfit have played out back-to-back 1-1 draws in their opening two league games of the new campaign. Imanol Alguacils’s side would consider themselves unfortunate not to have taken all three points against Celta Vigo last time out, having taken the lead through Ander Barrenetxea’s 22nd-minute opener. Just when it looked like the hosts will secure their first league-win of the campaign, Los Celestes leveled the score through Oscar Mingueza’s 94th-minute effort and broke the hearts of the home fans. Meanwhile, the club recently made their third signing of the summer, bringing in Arsen Zakharyan from Dynamo Moscow.
