Kazakhstan will host Finland in a Euro 2024 qualification fixture at Astana Arena on Thursday. Both sides are locked on nine points atop of Group H, having recorded three wins and one loss from four games so far. Since becoming a UEFA member in 2002, the hosts have failed to qualify for four European Championships, wining just seven of their 44 qualifiers prior to the current campaign, and they will be hoping to buck that trend this time around. The Eagle-Owls, on the other hand, competed in the Euro 2020 finals, finishing third in Group B, behind Belgium and Denmark, and they will be bidding to qualifying for back-to-back continental championships.

Kazakhstan began their Euro 2024 qualification campaign with a 2-1 defeat against Slovenia, but Magomed Adiyev’s men bounced back with an impressive 3-2 victory over heavyweights Denmark, thanks to three late goals from Bakhtiyar Zaynutdinov, Askhat Tagybergen and Abat Aimbetov. After that, the Hawks thrashed minows San Marino 3-0 before edging past Northern Ireland last time out courtesy of Aimbetov’s lone goal two minutes from time at Aindsor Park. When you look at the bigger picture, Kazakhstan have lost only four of their last 15 games across all competitions, while recording nine wins and two draws in the process.
Finland, on the other hand, started the Euro 2024 qualifying campaign with a 3-1 loss away to Denmark before before recording three successive victories against the likes of Northern Ireland(1-0), Slovenia (2-0) and San Marino (6-0), and thereby climbing to the summit of the table. Markku Kanerva’s side put six goals past San Marino without reply last time out thanks to Daniel Hakans’ hat-trick and one goal each from Glen Kamara, Benjamin Kallman and Teemu Pukki. Finland have now scored ten goals and conceded none from their last three wins, helping them to remain in pole position to win Group H.
