Jamaica and Mexico will be squaring off against each other with the intention of getting the top spot in their CONCACAF Nations League group. In the match that will be played at Kingston’s Independence Park, both teams have the possibility of topping Group A. Jamaica are currently sitting at the top of the standings with four points from two games, while Mexico are second with three points from one game. Suriname are at the bottom, with a solitary point from three matches. Mexico have to win their upcoming game to secure the top spot, whereas a draw is enough for Jamaica to retain the summit.

Mexico hold the superiority in the FIFA rankings, sitting ninth in the table, while Jamaica are way behind at the 64th spot. However, both sides have been largely inconsistent of late, thereby making it difficult to name an outright winner from this clash. Mexico have played 11 games this year and won six of them while losing one and drawing the remaining four. It may have not been a bad run but they have struggled to maintain a consistent winning momentum. Nonetheless, Mexico started the CONCACAF Nations League with a resounding 3-0 victory over Suriname.

On the other hand, Jamaica’s form this year has been extremely poor. Jamaica have won only two of the ten games they have played this year in all competition. They drew two and lost the remaining six matches. One of those wins came in the ongoing CONCACAF Nations League against Suriname, while the other was against Honduras in a Qatar World Cup qualifying match. Despite their recent difficulties, they have started this tournament well, winning one and drawing another. However, their first real challenge will come against Mexico in the upcoming match. If Jamaica do not raise their game, it will be difficult to see them getting anything from the clash against Mexico.

Possible Lineups

Some rotation might take place in the Playing XI for both sides, but it is not mainly due to injuries or suspensions. With Shamar Nicholson leading the line and wide player Leon Bailey, who plays for Aston Villa, starting alongside him, Jamaica’s attack could cause problems for any side. They also have young legs in their defence, which could come in handy against some of the quick players Mexico possess in their ranks.

With quite a few of the senior players not in the reckoning for the upcoming clash, some exciting talents might start for Mexico. Julian Araujo and Diego Lainez are among those players who could be in contention to take part in the game. However, it is not clear whether Arsenal youngster Marcelo Flores could be in line for a start. It is unclear as to who among Rodolfo Pizarro or Flores might start up front for the visitors.

Jamaica possible line-up: Knight, Bell, King, D. Lowe, Brown, Flemmings, Williams, Morrison, Bailey, J. Lowe, Nicholson

Mexico possible line-up: Cota, Araujo, Angulo, Reyes, Aguirre, Beltran, Cordova, Chavez, Lainez, Gimenez, Pizarro
