England will be eager to put their recent disappointments behind them when they take on Hungary at the 2022 UEFA Nations League on Tuesday. Gareth Southgate’s side are yet to win a single game in the ongoing competition and are sitting at the bottom of League A Group 3. They drew twice and lost the other in a group that also contain European superpowers Germany and Italy. On the other hand, Hungary have so far fared well, collecting four points to sit second in the table – above third-placed Germany and England. However, the hosts will be the favourites to end their barren run at the Molineux on matchday four.

The Three Lions are sitting fifth in the FIFA rankings, compared to the 40th position occupied by Hungary. Despite the massive gap in the rankings, Tuesday’s visitors defeated England 1-0 in their opening clash. Then, Southgate’s side were held to a 1-1 draw against Germany and a goalless draw against Italy. With just two points from three games, England are sitting at the bottom of the table. They now have to play at the top of their game in every single match to climb the table.

Meanwhile, Hungary have a great opportunity to complete a double over England. Having already beaten them in the opening round, they will be eager to win for a second time against them at the Molineux. In the remaining matches, they lost 2-1 to Italy and held Germany to an unlikely draw. They are sitting second at the table behind group leaders Italy. It will be difficult for them to maintain their current position for long, nonetheless, Hungary have given itself a good chance to make the impossible possible.
England could make a lot of changes to Starting XI after resting many players in their last match. Harry Kane, John Stones and Kyle Walker could all return to the playing squad. Kalvin Phillips returning as a substitute against Italy following his injury concern will be a big boost for the home team. If he is fit enough to start, then Phillips can be expected to play alongside Declan Rice or James Ward-Prowse in midfield. It will also be interesting to see whether Aaron Ramsdale continues to be their goalkeeper or if one of Jordan Pickford and Nick Pope will replace him. On the other hand, Hungary goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi will miss the match on Tuesday due to a suspension. Meanwhile, wide midfielder Andras Schafer is returning from a ban.
England possible line-up: Pickford, Walker, Stones, Tomori, Trippier; Bellingham, Phillips, Mount; Saka, Kane, Sterling
Hungary possible line-up: Dibusz, Lang, At. Szalai, Orban, L. Nego, Schafer, A. Nagy, Z. Nagy, Szoboszlai, Sallai, Ad. Szalai
