Ipswich returned to the Championship after a gap of three seasons, courtesy of finishing second in the League One last term. The Tractor Boys are viewed as one of the dark horses to progress into the Premier League during the 2023-24, and they have lived up to the billing on Sunday. Kieran McKenna’s side got the better of Sunderland, who had reached the playoff last term, thanks to two early goals in the second half through Nathan Broadhead and George Hirst. McKenna’s primary goal would be to secure top six finish in the English second tier, therefore the 37-year-old might opt to test his bench strength against Bristol Rovers in the mid-week.
Bristol Rovers, on the other hand, finished 17th in the English third tier last season, having collected 53 points from 46 games, nine points clear of the relegation zone.
